Mail ballots in Georgia are now due by Election Day—which was the deadline back before it wasn’t. Confused? Voters probably are, too, which is a good reason for judges and state officials to quit trying to rewrite election rules on the fly.
Georgia law says absentee ballots must arrive by the time polls close on Nov. 3. The New Georgia Project, founded by Democrat Stacey Abrams, sued. This summer a federal judge, finding that the deadline constituted a “severe” burden, said that ballots postmarked by Election Day must be counted through Nov. 6.
