As Michigan continues to count votes, federal case searches for missing mail ballots

A federal judge scolded the U.S. Postal Service on Wednesday after it failed to comply with a court-ordered deadline to sweep mail-processing facilities in more than a dozen states, including Michigan, for missing election ballots.

At issue: More than 300,000 mail-in ballots.

“It leaves a bad taste in everyone’s mouth for the clock to run out — game over,” U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan told government lawyers in a hastily called hearing Wednesday in Washington. “I’m not going to forget it either.”
